Steel Fabrication Services

What is steel fabrication?

Steel fabrication is the process of making steel into a usable component. Once created, steel fabrication can be made into a multitude of different shapes and sizes. It can be constructed into items such as stairs or roofs.

What steel fabrication services do Arc Alloys offer?

Various types of plate metal

Plate metal refers to a sheet of metal that is at least 6mm thick. Usually used where durability is the most important aspect of design, and weight is not an issue.

Expanded metal

Expanded metal has a diverse range of applications. The metal is expanded into a mesh to make it versatile and applicable to many industries. By expanding the metal from one piece of steel, there is no worry of parts becoming separated. This method also means less waste.

Welding wire

A welding wire is fairly self explanatory in one sense as it is a wire used in welding two metals together. The welding wire is used to conduct an electrical arc to “fuse” them together. Welding can create a piece of metal stronger at the join than the two separately.

Fittings and castings

The parts that fit other components together, fittings are the small parts such as screws or bolts. Castings are the manufacturing process of pouring liquid metal into a mold to make parts that would be uneconomical to machine into shape.

Various types of carbon steel

Steel is an alloy, made up of iron and carbon, and sometimes chromium. Carbon steel is similar to regular steel but with more carbon, which lowers the melting point of the steel and makes it more durable and malleable.

Stainless steel

Made from iron and carbon as standard, what makes steel “stainless” is that it must have a minimum of 10.5% chromium. Stainless steel has a much higher corrosion resistance and can withstand higher temperatures without damaging the integrity of the metal.

What are the most common types of steel fabrication?

As part of our steel fabrication services we offer the following fabrication methods:

Cutting

The most commonly used steel fabrication, it is the practice of cutting the metal into more usable shapes. Usually using lasers or plasma torches for more intricate cuts.

Welding

Welding is the most well known type of steel fabrication. Welding is when two pieces of metal are joined together by using heat from an arc torch.

Machining

To make specific components, machining is a steel fabrication service that is where a machine is used to remove portions of a piece of metal. Most commonly with a lathe, rotating the metal and “chiseling” excess material.
